SPRING 2020

STUDY SESSIONS

[ ON TRADITIONAL YOGA ]

w/ Hansa & Jyoti

This is the first workshop series out of many. We intend to inspire deepened inquiry by diving into yogic philosophy and discussing how to investigate and apply yogic sciences in one's life and practice. These study sessions are for the ones with interest to go deeper, no matter where on the path you find yourself. We’ll start with the fundamentals, only to go way deeper over time. We suggest that you join us from the beginning if you are in for the ride, as each session is a stepping stone for the next. During these sessions we will present the words of many teachers and highlight how these timeless teachings are still relevant today. Previous yoga related experience is not required, simply an open mind and heart. If you have an established spiritual practice, these study sessions will give you the opportunity to look closer at your resolution and nurture your relationship with the practice.

We will offer further deep dive study sessions after the completion of this series, based on the content discussed in this initial intro to the mystic and ancient teachings of yoga. Last half hour is allotted for Q&A. Join us for the ride into the inner depths of being.

Workshop Description:

Feeding Your Demons (FYD) is a profound healing practice developed by Lama Tsultrim Allione. This practice is inspired by the 11th century Tibetan chöd practice and modern psychotherapy. It offers techniques in identifying and working with our “demons,” or hindrances. FYD is based in the compassionate principle of “feeding” rather than “fighting,” and is applied to cognitive, emotional, and physical obscurations that bind up our lives. Participants will be introduced to the history and principles underlying FYD, learn and practice the 5 steps of FYD, and learn supportive practices.

Meet Jonathan:

Jonathan Barfield, Ph.D., has been a contemplative practitioner for over 20 years and is an apprentice teacher in the Tibetan Buddhist lineage at Tara Mandala under the guidance of Lama Tsultrim Allione. Jonathan is a certified Feeding Your Demons therapist and facilitator and has taught this practice to many monks, nuns, lay practitioners, and clients.

Amy is a Colorado native, and moved to the San Juan Mountains in 1997 to ski. She has worked mainly as a nutrition counselor, and most specifically with parents and children. She has been practicing yoga for 17 years and is a Certified Meditation and Mindfulness Teacher through the McLean Meditation Institute. Her passion for meditation began after having 3 daughters, including twins, and realizing that good nutrition was only a part of health and wellness. Her life brought lessons that both demanded and blessed her with a more comprehensive approach. This comprehensive approach of the 8 limbs of yoga, nutrition, Ayurveda and community is a gift that she wishes to share with all who hope to cultivate balanced health, growth, relationships and connection.  Amy’s meditation classes focus more on “techniques” than “traditions” with respect for all paths that lead to the top of the mountain!

Buddha was asked, "What have you gained from meditation?

He replied, "Nothing! However, Buddha said, let me tell you what I lost: Anger, Anxiety, Depression, Insecurity, Fear of Old age and Death."

Cleanse with Introductory Course (Nov. 5th ) & Online Support $45

Vak Tapas Course ONLY (Nov. 12) - $30

Description of Course

Ayurveda, the ancient Indian medicinal practice of balance and health, has long used masterful cleanses at the junctions of the seasons to facilitate an equilibrium in the body and mind and to establish and maintain well being.

Cleansing has a multitude of benefits including the elimination of accumulated toxins, improved digestion, burning unwanted fat, strengthening immunity, increased energy and reduced cravings. Ayurvedic cleanses are used to support and nourish and are not meant to shock the internal systems as other cleanse may do. By eating THREE FULL MEALS A DAY of vegan, wholesome foods and grounding, cooked meals including the delicious Kitchari, you are returned to a balanced, detoxified and purified state.

Join us, Monday November 5th from 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm for an in depth class on Ayurvedic cleansing and detoxification where we will cover key concepts for facilitating a successful detox including reasons to cleanse, ideal time to cleanse and specifics on how to undertake a 10 day Ayurvedic home cleanse. Class will also include instructional meditations and breath exercises (pranayama) to help support your balanced state. Collectively we will begin the cleanse the next day on Tuesday November, 6th and finish ten days later on November 16th.

To dive deeper into the cleanse an optional second course has been added: Vak Tapas- Yogic Disciplines for Purification of Speech on Monday November 12, 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm. As serious students of yoga we may feel drawn to bring other spiritual disciplines into our lives besides the practice of asana (yoga posture). Seasonal cleanses are one such practice. Another discipline that is immensely beneficial for cultivating mindfulness is the practice of Vak Tapas or disciplined speech. This special class will explore the four characteristics of Vak Tapas as explained in the Upanishads, as well as other ways we can enlighten the faculty of speech. When we use our organ of speech for right speech, we create harmony and increase sattva in the world. The lecture portion of this class will be followed by a guided Self-Inquiry meditation aimed to facilitate the cleansing of unhealthy emotions to further the benefits of the seasonal cleanse.

Throughout the 10 day period, we will be offering support via a private Facebook page set up for all cleanse participants as a place to share successes and challenges.

We look forward to sharing with you this wonderful honoring of the season of change and move together in balance and health!

Joanne is thrilled to be studying to become a functional medicine practitioner as it is the leading edge in scientific research into human physiology that will tie together all of her knowledge and intuition about healing through food.

Joanne’s classes, chef services and cleanse programs have been sought after by celebrities from actors, supermodels and photographers to CEOs, professional athletes musicians, producers and anyone wishing for positive change in their lives. Joanne is the personal plant based chef to Gisele Bündchen and Tom Brady in Costa Rica.

Anxiety to Expansion

be love see love.jpeg

‘What if?’

Two words that often indicate a new direction along a path.

‘What if’…

Two words that can help to open doors of opportunity just as We are beginning to feel hopeless about a circumstance, condition, or situation.

‘What if?’…

What if I told You that everything that happens, is helping Us to become stronger in Our own realizations about Our own power?

Take a look at the following words and check in with Your body to see if any feeling or emotion comes up:

Nervous. Anxiety. Panic Attack. PTSD.
Hope.

I encourage You to take a deep breath here and know that there is help.

Did You know that the word ‘anxiety’ comes from the word origin of ‘to tighten or to choke’? This is very often the way that symptoms are described when people are in the experience of intense anxiety.

‘A tightening in the chest’.

‘A feeling of being choked out/unable to breathe’.

Studies say that there are 40 million people in the United States alone, that work within the experience of anxiety- from social nervousness all the way to full blown manic states. Those same studies say that only about a third of that 40 million affected receive some sort of treatment.

No One needs to suffer.

Change Happens Here.

Please join Us for a very special evening to understand and overcome the old conditioning patterns of this very familiar catalyst.

Cost $25

Sunday 7:00 pm - 8:15 pm

Cost- Donation Based. $15 suggested donation.

About Ahmad:

Ahmad is a yoga practitioner with a music background. He works with a variety of instruments and sound tools like medal singing bowls, flutes, and didgeridoo to practice his modality offering call Acusonic Therapy.

Acusonic Therapy uses sound with intent to entrain the recipients into a state of relaxation and rejuvenation where profound transformation can occur.

About Julie:

Julie began her teaching career in 2008 while living in Atenas, Costa Rica where her clients were retirees seeking increased strength, flexibility and balance through simple Hatha Yoga. She enjoys working with students who have issues with weight, long term injuries, past surgeries, aging and any other challenges that may discourage them from having a yoga practice. Her philosophy is that anyone who can breathe can do yoga. Julie’s classes focus on listening to the wisdom of the body, working through each body part to find limitations and abilities before putting it all together into simple Hatha poses. She uses a sense of humor to encourage her students to lovingly accept where they are in their bodies while letting go of judgment and criticism of themselves in their practice and their lives. She received her 200-hour Alliance Yoga certification in Longmont, Colorado at Full Circle Yoga in 2013. Her passionate belief that yoga can positively change our mental outlook and physical health regardless of age, weight, and athleticism encourages students of all abilities to embrace a lifetime commitment to yoga.

Throughout the day the Shala's doors will be open for a simple Open House style gathering to allow people to explore the new space.

Our first day in Shala's new hOMe!

yoga-hands.jpg

We are so grateful for your wonderful support for the past three years! Thanks to you, 133 North Lena Street has served as the home for Ridgway Yoga Shala leaving it with the positive vibrations of our many students and the healing energy of our teachers. The space has allowed us to take our small vision and develop it far beyond the walls of our initial intentions. It has provided us with warmth on winter days and a sun drenched sanctuary of light and love… it has heard our chants in prayer and vibrated with the passions of our teacher’s loving voices. Its four walls have provided us all a place to grow, a place to heal, a place to love, a place to laugh, a place to play, a place to weep, a place to pray, a place to connect and a place to feel what it is to be human. For these reasons and for thousands more, we will forever be in gratitude for these years together and the memories we have shared at this space.

With the end of our lease term of May 1, we will say goodbye to one path and embark on a new one ~ one that will to allow us to grow and continue our mission to serve this community and beyond.

We are pleased to announce that our new Shala will continue to be
at the “heart of the Ridgway community” at 540 Sherman Street!

With much anticipation and excitement, and with the help of Sherman Street Partners, we have negotiated a long term lease for this new and welcoming location. The space provides sweeping views of the Cimarron Mountains and easy street access for many. We welcome this growth and change and look forward to watching it bloom.

WE NEED YOUR HELP

CLICK HERE TO DONATE NOW!  NO DONATION TOO SMALL!

To keep the Shala alive, the move requires a full renovation overhaul to the Sherman Street building at a cost of $10,000.00. We are dedicated to maintaining the same wonderful attributes of our current home, including beautiful floors, warm environment and peaceful energy. The work has already begun in anticipation of opening by May.

Unfortunately, our passions run deeper than our pockets. For the last 3+ years, we have run the Ridgway Yoga Shala as a labor of love and have never turned a profit. In order to sustain our sacred space, we need your generous support to help us complete this vision. All donations will go directly to remodeling expenses. If you are unable to donate financially, we appreciate any physical, trade or talented gift donations you are willing to share with us!

We are forever grateful for this opportunity to move together into a new hOMe. The collective support of this amazing community is overwhelming, and we feel our dharma to maintain this space is strong. PLEASE consider being a part of this with your kind CONTRIBUTION.  We are filled with gratitude for each and every one of you and all your beautiful gifts, souls, teachings and hearts.

Many blessings and we look forward to sharing our new space together with you all…

Katie and the RYS Team
